Organisation

An Executive Committee is directly elected in January / February every year by the membership and meets regularly to process business and discuss issues arising locally and nationally.

There are also General Meetings for all members of the Local Association (LA) most of them addressed by an invited speaker including once a year the National President of the EIS who spends the day visiting educational establishments in the area.

The Executive and its office bearers represent EIS members individually and collectively. Collectively the principal formal mechanism is The Joint Negotiating Committee for Teachers set up by Perth and Kinross Council and consisting of elected councillors and representatives of the teachers professional associations with the Directorate as advisers.

Two of our members, Colin Mackie and Douglas Stewart, are also the teacher representatives on the Lifelong Learning Committee.

The AGM of the Institute and the National Executive Council

The AGM, held every June, is the main policy making body of the Institute. Through the LA any member can put forward a motion for consideration by the AGM. Further details of how to put forward motions or get involved in the AGM can be obtained from the LA Secretary. Between AGMs Institute policy is in the hands of the Executive Council which meets 6 times a year. Council representatives are directly elected by the members in the LA in January / February of each year.

Currently our membership numbers entitle us to three Council places and these are held by Tricia Duncan of Methven Primary, Audrey McAuley of St Columba's High School , and Douglas Stewart who is currently seconded as LA Secretary.
