Colin Mackie

Colin has served the EIS at almost every level. He was a School Rep for many years and was first elected to Perth & Kinross LA Executive in 1985 and served as President in 1989-90, and since becoming Secretary in 1991 has undoubtedly been the most authoritative and influential figure in local teacher politics.

Colin retired in August 2007, and in the Parklands Hotel on Friday 15th June 2007 EIS colleagues past and present, from Perth & Kinross and the former Tayside gathered to pay tribute to a remarkable career in teaching and trade unionism.

Colin's last JNC Group meeting

In his speech Colin described his teaching career from 1970 at Perth High, then as Principal teacher at Kinross High and his progression in the EIS from "dyed-in-the-wool Tory" to Rep at Kinross to President of Perth & Kinross LA and Assistant Secretary at Tayside level till in 1991 he took over from Gordon McGregor as Secretary. He thanked the colleagues at school and within the EIS who have supported him over these years and speculated on the future of the EIS.
